What happens when Mom can’t find her way home?

Every year, thousands of senior citizens wander away from home. We can help bring them back.

As cases of Alzheimer's and dementia continue to rise in our aging population, the need to identify confused, scared, or otherwise lost senior citizens has become a critical challenge for our healthcare and law enforcement communities, not to mention the burden of worry carried by the loved ones of those afflicted with the condition.

As a former police officer in an area heavily populated by senior care facilities, I’ve witnessed and experienced the struggle to help those who don’t remember who they are, where they live, or what medical conditions they might have that require immediate attention.

As I was developing My Family ID, I realized the need to identify the missing, extended beyond parents with young children, to caregivers and adult children who had assumed the role of guardian for their own parents.

Much like missing children, senior citizens often, don’t carry, take off, or forget identifying documents before wandering away from home.

Balancing freedom with security is a daily struggle for these caregivers.

While there is no one-size-fits-all solution for caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or dementia, there are steps you can take to help alleviate the worry.

Create a digital passport for your parents and loved ones.

Using the My Family ID App, you can capture not only the key identifying traits of your loved one, such as height, weight, and eye color, but also their facial map. Elderly people are extremely difficult to fingerprint. This is due to a process known as “erosion”. Fingerprints are basically ridges and groves. Imagine sanding your fingers with sand paper. The ridges become flat. This is why we have introduced facial mapping. Scanning the face so that our loved ones can be recognized by facial recognition software and cameras. You can also include notes on diet restrictions, medication needs, and contact details for any medical providers who should be notified in an emergency.

Using our app, you can easily share these details with caretakers, medical staff, and law enforcement to ensure that if they wander, you can find and identify them before they get into trouble.
